University of Illinois Homecoming

I created a bold, school-spirit-focused look for the University of Illinois' 2019 Homecoming event.

The Challenge

I created digital and printed promotional materials for the University of Illinois' 2019 Homecoming week. In past years, we created an identity centered around a theme that tied in with something relevant to the university, students, and alumni. For 2019, I was asked to create a look that did not have a secondary theme. The primary read of all materials was to be "University of Illinois Homecoming." The event planning committee crowdsourced a tagline from the student body that needed to be incorporated in some way but not overpower the university name or become too much of a secondary theme.

The Solution

I came up with a two-toned photo treatment using the school colors (orange and blue) and a simple type treatment using the university font that included the tagline in support of the words "University of Illinois Homecoming." I kept image and text stylings consistent across applications to tie the materials together visually. I chose to use energetic stadium and celebratory shots that embodied the feeling of the week.

My Role

  • Came up with the visual look for the event
  • Designed a type treatment that highlighted the university name
  • Produced assets for both print and the web
  • Worked with printers and reviewed proofs
  • Created new graphics to update an existing landing page
