Easterseals Tribute Dinner

The Tribute Dinner is an annual fundraising event to benefit Easterseals, a national non-profit that services individuals with disabilities. Each year, Easterseals pays tribute to an individual who has made a difference in the community. The honoree for the 2016 event was Sue Yoder Portscheller, a woman who has worked tirelessly to better the quality of life and education for children around Peoria.

Easterseals needed an event identity, invitation, and program that honored Sue's efforts but also wanted to highlight their new logo and national brand, as well as the huge hospital project that was being kicked off at the event. My challenge was to create an identity for the event that married these three areas of focus, while keeping the spotlight on Sue.

The Solution

I came up with a concepts that creatively tied Easterseal's new brand and hospital project in with Sue's life and accomplishments. I took advantage of Easterseal's bright new color scheme, fonts, and logos. Instead of having content that focused on the organization's new look, I wanted the materials I created to embody it. The headline "taking on the future together" played off of Easterseals' new tagline "taking on disability together." I used a large "&" to visually represent the idea of togetherness and connection. Kids' drawings used playfully throughout represented both Sue and Easterseals' passion for making the lives of kids better. In the final program, I was able to use some drawings done by some of the children that Eaterseals helps.

My Role

  • Worked closely with a copywriter to come up with the concept for the event materials
  • Shaped the look of the visuals, sourcing and manipulating photos from the Easterseals database and from the tribute's family
  • Worked directly with the printer to select paper stocks, sizes, and finishes
  • Worked with an event planner to choose decor for the night of the event that complemented my art direction
